Well, now that the dust has cleared from the monumental election here in the United States I’ve decided to share some souvenirs. I wasn’t able to get a newspaper on November 5. I’m sure there are a lot of other folks out there in the same boat. Lets move on into the digital age and save websites instead! I took care of the screen captures, you can download them here!
On a side note, this really applies to the yellow pages. If you’re spending half as much money on yellow page ads as your website, give me a call and I’ll help your business make the transition into the digital age. I didn’t own a copy of the yellow pages until a month ago when I fished one out of recycling to look for local businesses who might be able to profit from my services.
Without further ado, here are screenshots of major news websites just after they announced the winner of the presidential election, Barack Obama.

There’s a lot to be learned about marketing on the internet, website design, and user interface design just from studying these screenshots. I suppose there’s also some historical value, so feel free to save these for posterity.
It is my understanding that this posting of screenshots falls under fair use, if I’m wrong feel free to let me know.

PS: Yes, I’d be doing this website showcase if the election had gone the other way.

so you are suggesting that small businesses ignore the 14 BILLION look-ups that those print yellow pages brought advertisers last year??

No Ken, I’m not. I am suggesting that they should be careful not to ignore the internet as a tool for people to find their business.
The fact of the matter is that people are finding local businesses online more and more. Last year Nielson did a survey on this very topic, you can find the details at http://searchengineland.com/survey-search-now-top-resource-for-local-information-12396.php
Here’s the part I’m thinking of:
“Additional findings regarding local search:
–86% of those surveyed say they have used the Internet to find a local business, an increase from the 70% that responded affirmatively a year ago. –78% use the Internet more today to find a local business than they did 2 years ago –20% use it the same as they did 2 years ago. –2% use it less than they did 2 years ago.
Traditional directory usage down:
–6% use telephone directories more than they did 2 years ago. –43% use it the same. –52% use it less.”
